Newcomer of the Week:
Enter Rana
Enter Rana stand out with an incredibly deep approach to making music and grab your attention right away.
I have a soft spot for lesser-known Finnish bands that carry the underground vibe and the old-school aesthetics of rock music — something that nowadays is increasingly left to gather dust on the shelves and overlooked. Rock music can become mainstream, or it can fade over time in that never-ending race, but the sound of such bands always stands apart from what gets pushed into the charts.

ENTER RANA is exactly that kind of band — no longer fitting into the "newcomer" category, yet still lacking the recognition they deserve, even though they keep going. Their debut EP "I" was released in May 2016. Around the same time, ENTER RANA visited Russia as part of the international Emergenza festival, delivering a great performance on the final day of the event.

Perhaps the brightest, most beautiful, and most impressive song in their entire catalog is "Our Bloom".
"Our Bloom" is a song about a fleeting moment, a stranger's glance, and the unpredictable tension that suddenly pulls you toward forbidden, unknown pleasures — that's how the band described the track in my interview with them.

ENTER RANA, like many other newcomers, are fully aware of their place on the Finnish music scene. "It's quite difficult to share music with a wide audience in our country. Nevertheless, we believe that since we create our art without compromise and keep moving forward, our audience will eventually find us. Luckily, we already have great people who support us."

The band has changed their lineup several times, and during the period when "Our Bloom" was created, my good friend was playing in the band — which is how I got drawn into their music. I'm talking about Ossi Oikari from the now-disbanded group Typeface. It's his vocals you can hear in the background of "Our Bloom".

I highly recommend checking out "Our Bloom", "Quiet", and "Branches" by this band. You're in for a real treat.
