Ember Falls — Over My Dead Body
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
The song has one of the best guitar riffs of BC at the moment. We like riffs. And it's a really good song besides as well. Didn't need much more than that!

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
We added a bit of a heavier touch to the song and made it sound more like us. BC were not involved with the cover at all, apart from writing the original of course LMAO

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
We just released our second album and are currently working on new music, but it's still a bit early to say anything about the schedule of the third one.
Mari Sainio — Dark Side
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
When I listened to Dark Side I immediately got some ideas for my version. My style is very different compared to Blind Channel's and I wanted to choose the most melodic one that people will recognize immediately when they hear the cover. I've known Blind Channel's music for many years because we were on the same label and I'm also a big Eurovision fan so I was happy that they represented Finland.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
I compose mostly instrumental music so I think the most difficult part was the rap verse because it didn't have strong melodies. I decided to make a one note piano line to represent the rap lines. I like to create big soundscapes, contrasting melodies and build the emotions and tensions throughout my compositions and tried to do that in this cover as well. I didn't collaborate with Blind Channel on this cover, it was a surprise for them as well.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
This year is gonna be quite busy. I'll release my second album Archipelago Stories this spring and I will also compose music for film and for different classical ensembles.
Cyan Kicks — Died Enough For You
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
DEFY is by far the best song by them, and that’s the sole reason. Our label came up with this idea of a BC cover album. At first we were a bit hesitant cause we’ve been really busy with our 2nd full length. After a while we decided to give it a shot, booked the studio and recorded it. We’re happy that we did, cause the feedback has been really great, and the guys from BC loved it too. And yeah, we think we know the history. After all, we were on a same label for over four years.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
Actually, no. The vision was really clear straight from the get go. We always approach covers in a way that if this would be our song, how it would sound. We think there’s no point in covering a song by making a carbon copy of the original. For instance, we decided to go with crystal clear falsetto vocals in chorus instead of growls, it’s a complete opposite but at the same time it has the same feeling of despair, just in different way. We also added this completely new ”drop” after the 2nd and 3rd chorus to give it this almost kind of ”cinematic” feel. We didn’t get any help. We work 95% of time just by ourselves anyway.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
New album will be out this year. The next single is ready, hope to release it sooner than later! We hope to come out with news on European shows as well, but that’s still in the making.
Block of Flats — Sharks Love Blood
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
It was quite obvious choise to us to choose Sharks Love Blood cos it had elements and potential to make it sound like Block of Flats. Actually the history or story behind the song is not that familiar to us but it’s one of our favourite song from BC. Btw, diving is one of Ossis’ (Drummer) hobbies and he has seen sharks in the water while diving.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
Working with this song was actually quite smooth. The original song is a very good composition. Jonne was the mastermind behind our version and this song was a suprice to BC from their former Record Company so unfortunately we couldn’t ask help from BC. We recorded it at the same studio (Finnvox)where Blind Channel has recorded many of their songs!

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
We have been working with our new album for a while now and many things depends on the global situation… But we can say that during the year will be released new BOF tunes. So stay tuned
DIRT — Alone Against All
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
Already before we decided which song we’ll cover, we knew we didn’t just want to make a basic cover, but to use some of the existing ingredients and make it sound like us, in our own fashion. It’s a great song and as soon as one of our bandmates suggested that song, I and everybody else in the band kind of knew and ”clicked” to the idea. Personally I didn’t know the song from before as I haven’t been as active of a BC-listener before.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
It was either Seba (the second guitarist) or our bassist Benny who suggested the song, and they made a demo of it. That was basically ”the” arrangement, and we took it from there and made some tweaks. The vocal melodies fit well with the slightly rearranged music and it came together quite effortlessly. Sometimes a song just ”has everything”. We did try a couple of different ideas but realised quickly what works best. Blind Channel was not a part of this process.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
Since there’s not really too many shows going on these times, we’re focusing on our debut album which is coming later this year. The first single Real World was released in November, and the next one is on it’s way… stay tuned!! I hope all of you’ll check it out when it drops, because it’s quite UGH!!
Beyond Awareness — Like a Brother
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
We chose "Like a Brother" because it sounded like it would fit perfectly into our own style. Also, the song needed more attention in our opinion.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
Only difficulty we had was with the lyrics. Due to the vocal style of the original song, we couldn't figure out the lyrics by ear. The internet seemed to have the same problem. Luckily at the studio, the correct lyrics appeared and we didn't have to use our misheard version of them. Best thing was that the inconvenience forced us to really think about the song's meaning. It definitely has a personal experience behind it, but many people are familiar with the feelings of anger and disappointment, when betrayed by someone once trusted. We didn't dig out the original story behind the song, because we wanted to treat it as our own. The cover was a total surprise for BC, a well kept secret.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
The future of Beyond Awareness is looking really great! We are currently working with a bunch of songs that will form into our debut album. The goal is to create amazing songs that will resonate in our growing audience globally. No date is set for the release of the first single, but it's getting close!
Awake Again — Wolfpack
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
We chose Wolfpack because it has such a great energy and a very catchy chorus. We are not familiar with the story behind the song. We just really enjoyed it.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
We played with different kind of arrangements and there was many possible ways to go with the song. I don't think that we had any real troubles when working with the cover. And no, we didn't get any help from Blind Channel. This was a surprise to them.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
Yes, we are releasing our debut album this spring. We will announce the exact date very soon.
Wake Up Frankie — Timebomb
Why did you choose this particular song for your cover? Did you know the history of the song before you started working on the cover?
We simply thought that it would suit us the best. There is a nice riff, catchy melody on the chorus and the lyrics have a little bit of "danger" so it was a good fit for us! Of course we all like the song aswell so it was kind of an easy choice.
About the history i think we dont know that much. Only when it's released and that it was first official song with Alex featuring.

Did you have any difficulties working on this song? What feelings of your own did you put into the cover? Did Blind Channel help with working on this cover?
Actually no! Everything went very smoothly during the process. And we just basicly added our sound and touch to it, making it sound like it's Wake up Frankie who is playing but still not changing too much the original one and respecting it. We added little bit more tempo to make it "more metal", build the breakdown differently and added a guitar solo! But like i said earlier that the song has already nice riffs, catchy chorus etc., these are exactly the things we focus when we write our own music. So i think the best way to describe this in the end is that we just made it sound like us! And no, we didnt get (or asked) any help from Blind Channel, we composed this together only with our own band members incl. & studio technician.

What are your plans for the near future? When are you planning to release your own new music?
Well that is a good question and i think that most of it depends about this pandemic which is raging again... Gigs are not allowed in Finland at the moment so obviously we cant play any shows and we just hope that gigs will be allowed asap. And new music is on it's way ;) we have a lot of stuff written & recorded, that's what i can say. Hopefully we can release some of that soon! but like i said kinda everything depends about how this pandemic situation goes. Not the best time for bands & artists but there is nothing we can do about it so... we will keep writing songs and staying active at rehearsal place and on social media. That's what we can do to entertain our supporters & fans who means the world to us. It's also vice versa because the support of the fans is more crucial than ever for the band. But to summarize, Wake up Frankie will stay active and release new music as soon as it is possible!
