Discovery of the Week: One Desire
The modern triumph of Finnish melodic rock: crystal-clear vocals, powerful stadium anthems, and a flawless harmony of drive and romance
One Desire is a Finnish rock band formed in 2012 by drummer Ossi Sivula. The lineup remained unstable until 2014, when Jimmy Westerlund—who had previously produced Negative, Sturm und Drang, Joel Madden, Good Charlotte, and Pitbull—began helping to promote the band.

Having just returned to Finland from Los Angeles, the band invited him to produce a few songs, which successfully caught the attention of a major record label.

Recognizing that One Desire lacked a standout frontman, Jimmy suggested his acquaintance André Linman from the band Sturm und Drang, which was already on the brink of disbanding at the time.

The musicians recorded several new tracks together, shaping One Desire's signature sound. In 2016, Ossi Sivula and André Linman invited Jimmy to officially join the band, and shortly after, talented bassist Jonas Kuhlberg completed the lineup. In this formation, they recorded the tracks that helped them achieve popularity, including “Hurt” and “This Is Where The Heartbreak Begins.” This breakthrough propelled the band forward, leading to the release of their self-titled debut album, One Desire, in 2017. Three years later, One Desire presented their second full-length album, Midnight Empire, to the world, followed a year later by the live release One Night Only–Live In Helsinki.

The band is currently working on new material, having released the single “Never Gonna Stop” last year, and their second live album, titled Live With The Shadow Orchestra, this year. A third studio album is already in the works for One Desire.
